About Old Salt Co-op, LLC
The Old Salt family of businesses forms a better marketplace, a kinship economy, for the food, fiber and ecosystem services of American ranching and includes: meat processing services, wholesale of food and fiber, online sales of meat and pet treats, distribution, restaurants and catering, and Old Salt Festival.
Our shared ownership empowers ranchers, workers, and their communities to steward robust soil, plant, and animal life, providing food, fiber and ecosystem services that are
accessible, nourishing, clean, and damn fine.
Our business model includes retail locations and an annual on-ranch Festival that build familiarity and belonging with thousands of customers, while in-house processing, cold storage, and distribution infrastructure provides food security.
We are well positioned to build this kinship economy because of our: economically stable and ecologically robust founding ranches (>200k acres); deep network of excellent prospective members in the region provides a foundation of integrity and scalability; ranch and worker ownership ensures aligned incentives for a secure supply chain, reduced
working capital needs (60 day payment terms), and employee retention and development;
control over the middle market means of production (e.g processing, cold storage) bolsters food security; experiential marketing (restaurants and events) builds trust with customers through familiarity; diversified enterprises promote one another, provide contribution margin, and hedge risk; our strong team serving a larger mission; proven ability to secure aligned capital.
Old Salt is currently raising $2.4M in order to upgrade equipment at our USDA processing facility that will facilitate higher throughput volumes and better working conditions, grow our corporate team to build demand for our catalog of products, and fund working capital needs to allow us to achieve consistent profitability.
